Mud School!

Let’s GO! to Mud School!

Currently working on an illustrated graphic novel that's perfect for early and reluctant readers—something fun for everyone to enjoy!

Let’s GO! to Mud School

Early morning. Dog sleeping deeply on comfy cushion. Clock hand on weather barometer swings from Rain to Fair to Change. Sleeping dog opens one eye suspiciously to look at the barometer - the tip of it’s tail flickers slightly with excited anticipation.

I said…

Same morning different room. BOY sleeping peacefully in the bottom bunk of a bunk bed with cat by his side. We see and hear the bunk bed moving and creaking as someone shifts around out of sight. The top of GIRL’S head peeks into view as the boy opens one eye sleepily.

Gu-u-u-e-e-s-sss

It’s too early for guessing.

Door creaks loudly as DOG pushes door open with nose from hallway into kids shared bedroom. GIRL hangs excitedly over bunk bed and asks BOY ‘Gue-eeeess What!?’.

BOY replies - ‘It’s too early for guessing,’ and squishes head and body down into bed. Snoozing cat mimics boy’s movements by squishing down next to him.

Okay, well…

GIRL - tossing blankets aside and without hesitation climbs down ladder, jumping deftly to the window seat - fluently she opens curtains, hops down to floor, picks up glasses and puts them on in one deft swoop. DOG stretches and starts to pull blankets from BOY, who in pulling back DOG interprets as a tug of war game. CAT ‘mews’ loudly and leaps out of sight.

Yeah, but…

GIRL busily puts on dressing gown as she rushes to wash and dry face, brush teeth etc. BOY trails behind reluctantly trying to persuade her against the idea of going to Mud School.

It’s been raining all night!

GIRL seemingly flies down stairs - into kitchen where she quickly prepares breakfast of toast with peanut butter and sliced banana and a glass of milk. BOY states the claim that it’s been raining all night so they shouldn’t go out. Cat and Dog are underfoot, mimicking the children’s energy and vying for attention.

Well… Auntie says..

Ignoring BOY’s protestations, GIRL continues to get ready, barely finishing her breakfast before dressing for the outdoors and getting the dog ready to go outside.

There’s no such thing…

The GIRL and DOG race down the stairs, taking two at a time. Somehow BOY has managed to leave at the same time although he is a lot more hesitant to descend the stairs he doesn’t want to be left behind.
